Question E-maily agro, pooter genius required

Ever since i went broadband (bout a year ago ) i cant use outlook express to get my e-mailys, i have to log on through the orange homepage which is a bit of a PITA.

i get a message saying failed to connect to pop3 (whatever that is) i've tried loadin the mozilla e-maily thing and get the same error message.

i appeal to the all knowledgable YD massive for an explanation in the most basic of laymans, so i can understand it.

Thanks, sean (pooter muppet)

POP3 is the incoming mailey server... Think of it as the computer equivalent of the post office... Mail goes there and gets saved up until you open outlook it gets delivered by postman pat.

Are the settings, user name password and server are correct, it sounds to me like the pop3 server address is wrong (btw pop3 is post office protocol v3 and smtp is Simple Mail transfer protocol) I would personally have a look at the orange FAQ and check there, it will guide you through the process allthough you will need the username and password you have been given for this (if none was given try using your username and password for your broadband account with the @....com at the end and without.

regards

James

Sean, had a look on Orange website and these are the settings.

To access them from Outlook Express click Tools, Accounts, Mail then properties.

The POP3 should be pop.orangehome.co.uk

SMTP should be smtp.orangehome.co.uk

Make sure your username and password are correct.

It is a new account in mannor of speaking they will have different servers for broadband and dial up. It has been done and have a look on the orange FAQ pages, it will have what you need to to to be able to set it up, and do not forget to use the information it asks for not just the same info it may be different, you remember the info they gave you in the welcome to broadband pack.

The same address will not work to post to two different houses!

You can allways call up their tech support and they will guide you through for 50p a minute after you spend 10 minutes moaning, or you can bite the bullet and accept it and use their FAQ.

Is your login a freeserve one or an orange one? If it is an old freeserve login thet ends in @freeserve you need to miss this bit off your user name for broadband. You needed it for dial up.
