As they have all worked I know nothing about their support. When my poor old Toshiba finally dies (or the busted lid friction system finally annoys me enough) Acer will be on the list of possibles for my cash. |

| Anyone got a Dell laptop Same thread. I'm in need of a laptop but I'm confused by all the jargon and sales pitch. Dell have some seemingly good offers. Any ideas?

| Just bought an Acer 5634 with Intel Core Duo 1.8Ghz, 120Gb HD, 2 GB RAM, 15.4 wide TFT for £679.99 from Comet online. Got it yesterday and having fun adding all the software again. Even Dell's machine was more expensive than this. Not sure about XP Media, might replace it with XP Pro in the future, haven't found anything wrong with XPME other than lots of bells and whistles which I don't need. HTH

| I would have a good look at the Dell offers. I bought one quite recently, by getting the model up from the cheapest I got one with 1Gb memory (which I consider essential) for just over £400. If you go for the cheapest model but upgrade the memory from 512Mb it ends up costing more! Other makes I looked at seemed dearer for an equivalent spec (quite small disks in some of them as well). I also took the cheapest service option (12 months send it back yourself) and they subsequently phoned me and offered 3-years on site parts and labour fix, 24-hour response (excluding battery) for £60, which I thought was a bargain given the cost and hassle of fixing laptops... Other places worth a look are ebuyer.com - the UK's largest independent online retailer of computers, components, electronics, MP3 Players, cameras, televisions, DVD Players, car audio, software and more... and Morgan Computers. Good luck! |

| I am writing this on an Acer TravelMate 2300. OK its a bit out of date now but I have had it for 2 years now using it every day and take it with me where ever I go, so it takes a few knocks and things. So far I have had no problems with it at all. HTH
