I have no idea how good it is but I've just been sent this in a 'special offer' type email: Komplett.co.uk - Sony Bravia 26" LCD-TV KDL-26S2000

Seems to fit your requirements.

I would buy a sony Bravia series, dunno about their 26" model. but the large versions are top-class although at a slight premium like most sony products. very well received with many positive reviews plus looks stunning.

brand-wise, sony and samsung come out tops in LCD technology.

Well I can attempt to.

The basic premise of HD copy protection is that HD content will remain encrypted as it traverses the various chips, printed circuits and cables that connect your HD source to your HD display panel. The source, display, media and any devices in the middle all need to be HDCP compliant for the content to be decrypted correctly.

Should there be some disagreement between your HD content, HD source and HD display as to your eligibility to view, the result may be a deliberately degraded picture or a warning message. There is also a mechanism within HDCP for revoking the encryption keys of 'black listed' devices leaving them useless. Updated black lists can be delivered by the content thus a working system could end up not working in the future.

The problem at the moment is that the specs exist but implementations are relatively scarce. Until you actually hook up a HD source (of which there are currently few), to a supposedly HDCP compatible display (of which many marked HD ready are not), and play your HD content (virtually non-existant), it is a bit of a guess as to whether you will see said content in all it's glory.

I am sure the issues will resolve as hardware and software becomes more widely available. It may well be that the Chinese raise the finger to Hollywood and manufacture non-HDCP source devices en mass, similar to the cheap multi-region DVD players which have saturated the market.

There are just too many what ifs for my likeing at the moment. Give it a year or two.

we had to pay similar price for ours, its a rip off.

plus we got the "budget" one which wasnt the official manufactureres recommended brand or whatever.

got some generic brand which looked slightly worse but still cost more than £100.

sadly duct tape for once has failed me in mounting something
