VR3, XP, Parallels & Apple Mac...

I can download data fine from my VR3, when running in XP in Virtual PC on an old Apple Mac.

Just got myself a new Intel based Mac, have new copy of XP installed inside Parallels, and also the ProDive s/w. I've downloaded the patched ProDive from the mssytems site, and modified vrfirm.dat (just like on my previous box).

I can get the VR3 to send "P"s to Hyperterminal but can't get either VR PCLink or ProDive to pick up the VR3.

Anyone tried this specific configuration and succeeded?

Don't know if you've tried it yet (not sure which version of Parallels you're running) but there's a new version of Parallels in Beta which is 1 million times better than the standard product. It enables better USB --> Serial connectivity (well, I can get the iSight cam working as well as my Cisco software via a Belkin USB to Serial Converter) as well as doing a rather groovy 'coherence' mode which layers the XP windows into the Mac environment!

Only thing you may want to toy with (if it's just giving you P's) is the port settings within XP? Make sure all the usual Baud/Handshake/Stop bit settings are OK as sometimes Parallels can arse around with them.

Good Luck!

Mark.

I'm using the standard release product from their website, version 1970. I've also downloaded RC3 which is version 3170, so may install that to compare.

The VR3 sends the letter P when it does connect via IR, which demonstrates basic connectivity. The problem i have is that although hyperterminal can access the com port (which is actually a USB cable mapped to a virtual COM port), neither ProDive or VR PCLink can actually see the COM port.

Thanks for the info on the new beta. I'll see if I have better luck with that.

Just an update, the RC3 version of Parallels, running XP, will communicate quite happily with the VR3 using the C35 usb to IR cable.

Also noticed that Parallels released a new formal release yesterday. However downloads from their servers appear to be a tad slow..

Thanks for the tip about using the new version. Green on the way

Mark

Good News.

I noticed when I went to RC3 a week or so ago, everything that hadn't worked before worked fine now - including the iSight in MSN via XP, believe it or not!
