| DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol) is a way of a device gaining an IP address on a network automatically. Assuming it connects to the physical layer (wireless / wired) it sends out a broadcast on the transport layer, saying 'any DHCP servers to service my request?'. Then your home hub should see this request and respond by giving your Xbox a lease of one of it's range of IP addresses, usually a 192.168.X.X address but may be different dependent on the config of your DHCP server. Usually, though, the IP addresses handed out are of a non-routable 'private' type. That is, they aren't truly valid internet IP addresses. When you connect to the internet everything appears to come from the external 'valid' interface of your home hub on t'internet. So, first thing to do is log onto your home hub (it should have a web page you can go to in your browser) and make sure that DHCP is enabled. Secondly, make sure you've put your encryption password in correctly - I'm assuming you'll be using WEP or WPA-PSK encryption (and if not, EEK). You can test if this is the issue by plugging your Xbox directly into your home hub (although you may be already doing that?) See how you get on and let us know... Mark.

| Thanks Mark, got it sussed, went into the setting on the 360 and realised it was picking up my old network (for some reason, I taken the old Netgear router out). So have assigned the new BT Home Hub... all seems to be working fine... also like to add that I downloaded the Media Extender... what an amazing bit of software... all of my photos and music now available on my big TV straight through the Xbox 360. Now I know people have issues with Microsoft... but for once they have put themselves in the users shoes! I'm sure there are other ways of doing the same, but for me it seems to work well. Pete
