Not sure about the 6hr write time but if it's for transfering DVD's from 1 PC to another then I'd suggest a DVD-RW disc.

The transfer speeds of USB devices have evolved quite a bit over the years. 6 hours for a 2.5GB movie sounds like old USB 1 speeds.

Looking at the specific device you have linked to, it shows a max data transfer rate of 9MB per sec (well down on the theoretical maximum of 60MB or 480Mb per sec), so a 2.5GB movie would take ~ 5 mins.

It is important to note that your PC must also be USB 2.0 compatible, otherwise you will be stuck to the old speeds of either 1.5Mb or 12Mb per sec.

The specs show a write speed of 13MB per sec, so actually faster than the 12GB one. At 13MB a sec, the 2.5GB file should take ~3.28 mins to download.

As I said earlier, this does also assume that your PC is also USB 2.0.

cheers,
Paul
