| We had the Citrix thin client at BP for a while whilst I was there in about 2003. Found it completely naff on our system... Slow wasn't the word. Slooooooooooooooooooow was more like it! I'm sure there are solutions that work well though.

| Yah, citrix at my work too. Sun have a proprietary java based system that does similar too - you have these little boxes on each desk with a screen, keyboard and card reader. You put your card in and you get a login. Cool thing is that you can pull the card out while working, walk to another desk and plug back in - the new desktop picks up with the session where it was, midword in a document even.

| last firm I worked at had this remote desktop thingy.Terminal services it was called. basically a tiny box running CE that connected to the server at head office. sloooooooooooooooooooow wasn't the word and it was pants. strangely the company installed most of the data centres for Chase manhattan JPMC/ chemical bank whatever they call themselves this month

| With citrix metaframe, Terminal services, an d a variety of other thin client application delivery solutions around, we are indeed coming full circle, and have been for about ten years now. It just makes sense to centralise everything from a maintenance, installation, security and version control perspective. |
