Saving mobile phone numbers

My old mobile, a Nokia 3330, suffered a moisture induced incident last weekend. I now have a chocolate KG800, and getting used to the sensitive touch screen.

Issue 1
I lost nearly all my contact numbers. I am now gradually adding these back to the new phone. Can any one suggest or recommend some software that will enable me to save my phone numbers back to my PC? MS Explorer does not appear to see any files on the phone other than music and pictures.

Issue 2
I copied a .wav file on to the phone. Explorer can see the file on the phone but the phone does not see or play the file. I copied the file over using Explorer from PC to phone. Any suggestions as to what I need to do so I can play the file.

Nokia PCSuite should do the trick with this one for you... I use it to synch my contacts with Outlook. There are various versions depending on your phone model.

Not sure on this one though... Sorry

Convert it to an mp3 - I'm not sure that all phones can play WAV files these days.

Nokia PC suite will work on Nokia phones but probably not on the LG phone you are using. Nokia's use a slightly proprietary format which has caught me out in the past when copying between outlook and Nokia phones and then into non-Nokia phones.

Assuming you are using Outlook, the LG can sync with Outlook via Bluetooth and as far as I know it is shipped with all the drivers etc that it needs (but I don't have one so I'm just going by what I've read).

If you're using a Mac then you just use iSync and enable bluetooth on the handset.

Yeah, most modern phones will sync with Outlook - I started using that a while ago, and makes it sooooo much easier when you get a new phone. Check the software / manual that came with the phone to see how to do it for the LG.

Making progress

I have now loaded the LG PC Sync software. The software expects to connect to my PC using a serial cable and connect to COM1 on my PC. The phone comes with a USB cable, which works fine. I cannot see how the software can change the COM port, it has an option of one.

Is there a way round this? COM1 is in use by other kit
Don't really want to buy more cables.

plug it in after you have loaded the USB drivers from the LG website- then it should see the phone and automatically make the connection, and yes you can rename ports if you want.

Thumbs up Sorted

In fact I had the correct cable and software, and have backed up my numbers into Outlook.
Not sure what I did different this evening, but all loaded up fine.

Anyway. If you happen to be the young man in LG UK TV support, and you read this - well done.
