A word of warning to BT home hubbers!

Realised tonight that I had not updated my windows software for a few months, so set it off whiilst I fed the kids. Went back to it 1/2 hour later, and it had all finished, and restarted - but the internet did not work.

Feck, I could see hours on the phone to Deli looming!

Anyway, spoke to a very nice man called Raj in Deli for 20 mins, in which time I have to confess he narrowed it down to my laptop as the probllem, as I had a hard wired laptop that worked fine on the same rouyter.

He suggested restarting the laptop, and he would call me back - yeh right!!

Amazingly he did, and after about an hour we found that the problem was that I had downloaded the latest version of Internet Explorer (7) , and this versions security was too great to let the BT Home Hub operate, we uninstalled V7 of IE and everything worked fine. He said that the most recent home hubs that were being sent out worked with IE7, but any prior to that would only work with IE6.

Moral of the story, if you have a home hub installed in the last 12 months, don't download IE7!

D

PS No doubt a techie will be along soon to tell me I'm talking shite, but it worked for me!!

Erm, I've had a BT homehub for about 4 months, and have IE 7 on all 4 machines that use it, all working quite happily.

Are you on Vista or XP?

I still get trouble with BT broadband and their home networking equipment.
BT will blame anything rather than admit they have sold me out of date technology.
I've identified (via an ex BT engineer) that it's their stuff that is the problem but all BT advise is to spend more money on upgrading to their latest bit of kit.

I use IE7 with my home hub and it works OK. I've recently had a problem but after 1.5 hours on the phone to them and being told it was IE7 they found out it was their router that needed resetting.
