A lot of Sony LCD's have well documented problems with clouding/banding... Personally I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole...

But, at the end of the day it's down to personal choice...

Keith, have a look at AVForums Home

There's masses of information on there... But be careful not to be put off as the number of people with problems with the various sets is scary...

Hi keith, yes I read those forums as well so was a little warry of this when buying. However, after looking and reading alot about the technology changes between the new sony and the old, and some pretty intensive tests I came out with the opinion that the Sony came out best for colouremitry and that the picture was very acceptable at SD and stunning with HD. Others that looked good across different formats where the Sharp and Samsung. If you read all the AV forums you will find that nearly every set including CRT and Plasma all brands and so on have a large number of negetive posts, a lot of reported problems are through set up problems and are not banding or backlight related but are percived to be. Yes I agree that you could end up with a lemon but i must admitt that goes with all electronics. It is a mine field so i would advise anuone getting a new set to get a 5 year warranty on it. John Lewies or the sony shop offer this free.
