Cheeky BT

I recently moved over to SKY + and phone as they do evening and weekend calls for free but this is via BT providing the line. I received my BT bill which is paid on a monthly plan and I happened to notice "One-off charges £2.55" I rang BT to find out what this is for and to be told as I shifted over to sky I have to pay for each time i dial to retrieve messages on 1471 which is fine, what I object to is that BT did not inform me of this. Anyway I will get a refund of this and the VAT and for anyone thats interested apparently to stop incurring these charges but keeping the 1471 function all I have to do is make 2 calls per month but dial 1280 infront of the number I actually want. These 2 calls are charged at a rate of 4.5p per minute so dont be nattering too long.

Sky have no reason to tell me as they are not aware of free functions I have with BT but when BT wrote to confirm that I was moving provider there was no mention in their letter of them charging for functions, so the onus is on them. Probably why there was no argument and they offered to refund the difference immediately.

My phone tells me the last 10 numbers that called so no need for 1471

Sean, I thought you had to pay extra ontop of your line rental to get that service? Before being on sky I got my calls via Tesco which initially was cheaper but I realised the special sign up offer I had with them must have ceased as my bills were getting higher.
I shall see how I get on with SKY then might check out BT. but thank you x

I have been with Talk Talk for a couple of years now as they have a £1000 promise that you bill will be cheaper with them than BT and I have to say that I have been really pleased my average bill is about £9 month and as some of my family are on TT as well all the calls I make to them are free. But what is really good is the customer service people are people and they answer the phone and I can understand what they say and vice versa. FYI Free Broadband with our Talk2 International Call Plan - TalkTalk
