Best bets would be to get yourself a wordpress install with a flickr plugin. Takes five minutes to set something up. Find a decent template from the wordpress template gallery and you're off.

Site can be edited, updated, changed by someone completely non-technical. YouTube vids are posted using the embed code (copy and paste) that youTube provides. Flickr gallery link allows you to include loads and loads of photos and albums without costing you on bandwidth (Flickr Pro is $25/year).

If you want some advice on getting this set up just give me a PM and I'll sort you out.

Cheers, Lloyd.

if you already have the domain and the hosting service - for a web page template/ideas you could check out Open Web Design - Download Free Web Design Templates or Open Source Web Design - Download free web design templates. - then you just download a template you like and use anything to edit it (I use Dreamweaver and used Open Source Web Design - Preview - andreas01 as a template - very easy to customize)
- for pics, you can use photobucket or flicker (free) or use something like Lightroom to generate galleries - or if you have the option of installing something on your web server, coppermine (if itz linux) is easy.
- for videos, embedding youtube is by far the easiest and free (and it gives you the code to put on the website on the youtube page as well)

I used/use Dreamweaver. Fairly simple and lots of help online via forums, books etc if you need to learn it. You can/could get "Dreamweaver MX" free which would probably do everything you need.

For photo gallery i use "Gallery 2" although free this does require your web host to have PHP and MySQL so it depends what your provider offers in the way of that.

I generally stay away from windows hosting.

I'm not wanting to hijack this thread but my question might go hand in hand with the OP question.

I was tasked with setting up a web site for SWMBO's roller skating club. I registered the domain and hosting service with the set up that CotoChris suggested.

As is well known I am a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to IT.

How easy is it to actually produce a website, do I just carry on with Windows Web Hosting, do I follow the tutorials and will I be able to follow them.

Anyone else used this provider??

Thanks in advance!

I know I bang on about it, but a wordpress install allows anyone to create a site with no knowledge of web design/programming at all. I often get customers who are really worried about getting a site edited after its created but once you've set a basic site up for them and 'guide' them through a couple of pages they realise how easy things are to do. Its quick and simple to bang out wordpress websites for customers, the only hard bits where you really then require a web designer is when you want custom modules and some complex design work too.

Windows hosting is fine. Lots of people prefer linux (as I do) its just because most of the internet runs off these systems.

Cheers, Lloyd.

Thanks all for your very helpful words of advice
I've just got hold of Dreamweaver MX and will also have a good look at Wordpress - see what meets my needs best.
Presumably they both do the same sort of thing, just in a different way?

Apparently my provider does perl (whatever that is) scripting, there's no mention of SQL anywhere.

Time to stick my toe in the water and see what I can break, I reckon..

Once again, thank you all for your kind words and assistance. Expect me to plague you some more as I fumble my way round it all

All the best

Rob
