Unless, of course, it is actually true.

BBC NEWS | UK | Phonecalls and texts to be logged

Probably not relevant to Georgina's issue though.

Of course the info *is* available and recorded .... how else do people think the phone companies can create the bill and deal with queries on the bill? .... What I had an issue with was the freely available to public bodies implication .... as the BBC article says, though,

so not exactly making data on all calls available to the bodies in the way the original article seemed to imply.

No this is only allowed to the Police.

Call recording and viewing TXT requires a court order, and this information is sent direct to the police via the network, phone companies can't assess this data.

Correct

Phone mast triangulation is easy and things have been logged since day one. At the end of the day, logs help trace a problem if something develops. The networks hold your messages when your phone is off. Nothing's changed in that respect.
The worrying thing is who is allowed to see it and in what situations. Gotta love the Daily Mail and other tabloids for making a mountain out of a molehill. Take it all with a pinch of salt and know that the real need is people to continue to make a fuss so the power isn't abused (We can but hope).

As for blutooth hacks and keylogging software, etc, he would need some serious gear. As Wilbo said, probably someone who is a few sandwiches short of a picnic!

Not quite correct, your location will be where your phone was authenticated to the network, so lets say you are in London use your phone then turn it off and drive to Scotland the network will have your last location as London. Only when you turn it back on and you authentic to the network will the switches be updated with your new location

The police or any emergency service depending on the reason you need to be found

This is quite easy a PDA running LINUX with the correct software on it can hack your phone if your bluetooth is left on, done, seen it, got the car sticker,

Regarding any communications sent across a non-secure method, i.e. wireless, be careful mainly of financial info or personal details relaying to the later, Im studying Computer Forensics and what we seen on our first night was enough to make you take your mobile/laptop and blackberry and bin them! There is software (free and available online) which is commercial grade stuff, that can find out alot of info, mobiles are just as easy, so I would be careful but also allow for bad english too, alot of networks are scanned by governments under the brolley of "Anti-Terrorist" monitoring so anyone who works for a mobile phone company may have access to alot of information, they are able to change your access pin when you go international, they can restrict the account, and Im not doubting they can monitor content, not regarding your issue, but with child internet crime, wordings and certain quotes are being scanned to catch culprits. Back to smoke signals and chalk boards I say!
