Opened my deck and I'm amongst the gizzards! HELP!

OK, my manky deck has a DC motor.

Is the little heavy box shaped thing which is wrapped in copper wire a voltage regulator? If so, is it more likely to be the regulator or the motor that is KO? I presume the regulator(?) is least likely as it has no mechanical moving parts?

Could a dry solder joint cause a reduction in speed?

Broon, do yourself and everybody within your postcode area a massive favour and put your safety mittens back on again! Sidley has quite enough (car) bonfires without you adding to them...

Worry ye not, I'm a Rescue Diver!

Also, I've got an aloe vera plant so burns are easily dealt with.

it's probably a 240ac to 12v dc transformer.
they normally work or dont.
there may be an increase in electrical resistance if a joint is dry but it is more likely that the bearings or brushes in the motor are worn.

Right. I'm sure the platter spindle bearing is OK because the platter spins like a good'un without the belt.

Must be the motor then.

It's probably not worth replacing, even if I could find another.

Oh well, I'll save up and perhaps get a direct drive turntable. Mind you, I suppose gears wear out too.

Curse this attachment I have to treasured items from my yoof!

Make sure you check that the xmt reciprocating slide clip from the giggle pin to the spod rod hasn't come loose too. If it's worn, you'd be best replacing it.

Is it the 2003 model?
