Video Files - watching & burning

I have some video files saves as 'video_ts' folder.I can not use Pinnacle to watch them so what program can I use?
I use to use Nero to burn them on DVD's and watch them on TV, but now I can't figure out the latest Nero - it is driving me up the wall. Am I being a moron or has it gone quite harder all this making own video?
After rendering I have kept a couple of videos, it has all the datta but no obvious program i can use, it won't work if I use put them on the DVD?

Thanks for any help from a very confused Chris

VIDEO_TS is the folder a DVD player expects to find the video files. The video files are named somthing like VTS_01_1 with a .VOB extension and should elready be MPEG2 encoded. You need an MPEG2 codec to play them in media player and those usually only come with DVD playback software which commands a license fee. There may be one in the free K-Lite codec pack. K-Lite is a collection of freeware reverse engineered codecs which usually work but are not always as stable or high quality as the commercial versions.

Video has got confusing recently because the number of video codecs has exploded in recent years. There are various flavours with or without license fees to be paid. Often the playback license is free but the editing license is charged for. It is not always obvious which codecs are installed and which of those are playback only. K-Light is great for ensuring you have a playback codec for 99% of video formats.

You should be able to create a DVD for playback on a standalone player just bu copying the VIDEO_TS and the already encoded .VOB files to a data DVD. There are usually .BUP .IFO .VUP files as well but I can not remember whether they are mandatory or not.

If you are messing with DVDs you might want to google for ISOBuster and DVD-Decrypter which are both pretty useful tools.
