Yes, amongst the many choices, if F5=" ", "helloooo"

Probably Vlookup
Go into the Formulae wizard and play around. It's usually easy to follow and often more simple than you having to write a full string of "if, then else"
Less chance of forgetting a ')' too

Sorry. You asked What's one of them, not which. See a new post

so... in cell H5 put

Should do the trick
You could enter a custom value if you just paste this over the bold text

IF(F5="X",F3,"NOT VALID VALUE")

in F5 enter X and in the other specified cell (in this example F3) what you want it to be.

Right,

a look up table will contain a bunch on of data in an ordered manner
You can reference it like a grid in battleships so Excel pops along and says, I have an 'x' so I'm gonna find the corresponding result for this 'x' and return it to this cell

Make any sense ?

Sorry Hard to explain here and I misunderstood the other question. Big Si's answer to that should work

I'll see if there's a way I can explain the lookup table better

My gripe is that it is if(test, then, else) in Excel and iif(test, then, else) in Access. Still keeps me employed, sorting out other peoples cockups, I mean data.
