Can any body access it at present. When I click play on any program I get the BBC intro which lasts 9 sec or 14 sec then it says there is a problem playing the program please try again It worked Ok in the past. I think its their problem but it would be nice to have it confirmed. Thanks

Looks like it was a glitch Its now working.

Probably a daft question, but why would it do that? It's nor peer to peer is it?

Paul

Yes it is (P2P that is). It uses an application called Kontiki (also used by 4OD I think).

For some reason iPlayer doesn't work on Vista but 4OD does (in my experience).

iPlayer is apparently responsible for a massive increase in ISP costs due to increased bandwidth useage (PC Pro: News: iPlayer "has tripled ISP's bandwidth costs")

I believe so or at least the beta is. Would make sense as its a quick way of distributing programs without using their own resources.

Have a look if "kservice.exe" is running under the task manager. I found by stopping this, my connection would return to normal. When it was running, it used all available upload bandwidth and rendered my connection near to useless. I couldn't find a way to throttle the service so just uninstalled.

**Beaten to it!**

Works ok here on IE7 and firefox in vista.

I dont use it much as i generally don't watch much TV but when i have done ive found the quality poor, particulary for the ones you cant download.

Thanks Chas & Guffnuts for the clarification.
I guess I won't be installing iplayer any time soon then.

I'd use it if there was a way of controlling the upload traffic. There are some good programs i'd like to catch up on, but if it involves rendering my connection useless, i'd use other, more controllable, software.

No sure of the Technical talk you guys are using, but if you just use it as a player ie dont use the download to save just view it, dosen't that just use it as straight steaming data and avoid what you are talking about?
