Is my hard drive stuffed?
Now then, I know very, very little about all that there new fangled computer stuff so whilst I'm grateful for advice, please post it in numpty language!

I bought the laptop in November. It has windows vista as the operating system. It's been absolutely fine until yesterday when I switched it on to see a message telling me that my user profile was not loaded correctly and see the event log for details. I don't know where the event log is by the way. My pictures and favourites were missing as was my sky broadband programme and my norton 360 security. I reloaded the broadband and security discs which worked fine, shut the computer down, but when I switched it on again, the sky and norton had gone again. When I tried it this morning everything else was still missing but the norton had returned.

So, what's happenening? The computer is still under warranty but is there something VERY SIMPLE that I could do myself?

Hi Frosty, hope Odin has sorted you out. I had Norton loaded on my laptop bought last year. Norton seemed to cause all sorts of problems. Deleted it and all was well.

Thankyou. I should add that the only 'new' thing I did was to use an external mouse. Would that do anything?

If you fancy having a go at restore its not difficult. Click Start then click on Help and support, look for system restore not sure where that is in vista and follow instructions.



Failing that leave it to the goodly and wise Mr Kelland and get your ass down t'club with all disc's etc.
