| Hi Nick. Managed to resolve this myself last wednesday with my sony vaio laptop. The touchpad can be disabled by following these simple instructions: 1. decide it would be a good idea to upgrade to a larger hard drive & more memory. 2. Have no idea how to actually do this 3. Turn the laptop upside down and see loads and loads of screws. 4. Decide (in your own mind) this must be the way in...... 5. Undo all the screws. 6. Attemt to open up the laptop. 7. Find it difficult 8. Here a small snapping noise. 9. Investigate said noise and find a broken ribbon cable. 10. S**t yourself as no back up has been carried out. 11. Quickly rebuild, fingers crossed hoping for the best. 12. Find that everything seems to be working ok, except for the touchpad, which is now totally inoperative (as are incidently the disc lights on the front) 13. Thank f**k that you have a wireless mouse......................... You will at this point be in the position that all those annoying touchpad features are now tottaly disabled..................................... Regards Mark NB. Know any cheap Sony Vaio repairers ????????

| Sorry, but I've turned it off on my HP and mine works fine. The method you used to turn it off is what my work machine uses and Obviously I'm not in the office right now to check it. My only other thought is that you maybe have stickykeys on, try holding the shift key for over 8 seconds, then when the menu pops up press cancel, if it's more messed up, do it again to put you back where you started. If that doesn't work, try hitting the shift key 5 times quite quickly, then cancel, again if it messes things up repeat it. Arfie
