I think the point here is that there is so much available that is genuinely free, usually under the GNU licence, that for most people there really is no need to go out and download dodgy versions of commercial stuff.

That's the beauty of utorrent, it searches the likes of Piratebay, mininova and others from it's search box, much like the search box built into the internet browsers.
