Pen security

I just brought a 8gb pen and want to keep some important files. In case of loss how can the pen be protected, such as password? Is there something obvious I'm missing out on?

You want this: TrueCrypt - Free Open-Source On-The-Fly Disk Encryption Software for Windows Vista/XP, Mac OS X and Linux

You can loose something with important files on it?

You must work for a government department.

I've lost two of them so far. Not lost as in don't know where they are, they are in my desk draw at home.
Lost as 'got left in shirt pocket and went through washing machine' and don't seem to work now.

Seconded, it's a great product, just make sure you don't loose the password or key file, if you do the data is pretty much gone.

So far the pens I have lost are under the paperwork in my desk I was at a trade fair last week and had my pen with me, I thought if a competitor got hold of information it would help them greatly. Being safe so touch wood won't loose any pens.

Another vote for truecrypt here. I use it on all my pen drives and just synchronise that file between desktop and laptop.

Very good useful program.

(Just make sure you pick a secure password not something easily guessed or dictionary hacked).

Just wish there was a truecrypt for windows mobile devices.
