Question using remote assistance MSN style

Ok I am trying to help my Dad out on his PC and I want to use the MSN remote assistance tool

Dad has clicked on the ask for remote assistance wizard, set up a password than we both can use. I have received the email, double clicked the little file and entered the correct password, but I can't gain access to his machine.

Dad is using Vista, MSN and broadband
I am using XP, MSN messenger, and broadband
Web cam is working find, as is broadband at both ends

I have resorted to Dad aiming his web cam at the screen, but the image is not so great and a little shaky. Dad is in his 70's and loves this web chat video conferencing stuff, just wish I could control his PC to do the job he wants.

Any ideas what to try.

Windows Vista’s New and Improved Remote Assistance

Quote:
A more important issue is that a person who is running Windows XP will not be able to offer assistance to someone who is running Windows Vista. Therefore, if your organization’s help desk depends on Remote Assistance, then you will probably want to make sure that the help desk staff are the first ones upgraded to Windows Vista.
Looks like you are buggered!!

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

If it wont work, try LogMeIn. It's free and works, I've loaded it on a few friends machines so I can remotely access them rather than having to go round.

could be your firewalls blocking access, port 3389 needs to opened up.

Yes I like this system. The issue is getting my Dad to get logged in. Believe me, I have been his software suport for several years now. Challenging is an understatement, but rewarding at times.

Logmein will download a little program onto his computer that can be set to go online all the time. So if you have it set that way you can just log on via t'internet anytime his machine is switched on and take over (you could have fun with that )

Yes I know, and it would drive him completely nuts. I have enough issues helping him out without doing that to him.
