Sony Trinitron flashing lights.
Anyone know what the 'flashing standby light' means on Sony TVs?

Per the instruction manual it means "contact your nearest Sony service centre'.

I Googled and found similar questions but no answers.

Apart from the slight irritation to the viewer (Mum) the TV appears to be working fine but she is now worried it is about to blow up.

I've been trying to persuade her to buy a nice new huge TV but "what's the point at my age" kind of kills any debate on the subject.

Don't know what any of that shite means!
I'm having a similar problem. Switches on, you hear the sound coming through the speakers then poof, telly goes into standby mode and button flashes. If you try it a few days later it works and then goes again next time you switch on.
Pain in the arse and probably a pain in the wallet too.
