been a customer for over 10 years, back when Virgin was NTL was Cable and Wireless.

no complaints since Virgin took over, NTL were the pits though.

I'm with Virgin on their 10mb cable service (recent free upgrade from 4mb)

if I download more than 750mb between 6pm and 11pm then the service is throttled from 2.5mb/s to 750kb/s

after 11pm it resets itself.

this is fine as I download after 11pm leaving the PC on when most others have gone to bed..

Can't say I'm surprised people are having problems with all the movie downloads being touted without additional infrastructure put into place. All those Youtube links

There's also the ADSL contention rate, you could be sharing the line with upto 50 other people.

down a fibre optic?

shouldn't be a problem. most of the kit in the green boxes has been replaced with new stuff ( cos the engineers forget to close em properly and the kids pull wires out)

thinkbroadband :: ASA rules on Virgin 'fibre optic' broadband claims

It is fibre optic for their cable service... But ADSL (of any flavour) is still delivered over twisted pair so I guess (haven't a clue really! ) would still suffer from contention problems?(?????)

I know that all the connections from the green box to the house are in a coax cable similar to statellite downleads.

I am also aware that the main network is in fibre optic.

hopefully thereb shouldnt be contention issues with the fibre optic network
