Unless you want a blu ray player, I'd wait. The general TV industry view is that physical formats (i.e. discs) is a dying delivery method. Digital delivery and streaming is the way to go.

In that case, go for a 1080i capable video streamer, some cat5 or cat6 home cabling (you don't want to stream HD wirelessly unless it's a very short distance), and a media server.

1080p is the better one (and more expensive)...

i = interlaced (does every other line and then goes back to the top and fills in the gaps)
p = progressive (does every line in order)

1080p is also called 'Full HD'

And, as I posted earlier, don't forget that now we also have 1080p/24 which is supposed to be better for reasons described earlier. But lets face it, whatever we bu now there will be something better in a year or so's time or they wouldnt keep selling TVs

I always get the two mixed up. I meant 1080p.

I understand (no source on this - don't quote me, it's just something I recall reading) that "i" is something of a misnomer for flat panel screens - the screens are by their very nature progressive, so an interlaced signal is converted to progressive by the display?

On the subject of screen burn, not so sure about LCD's being immune, as one of ours has quite bad screen burn from a Sky 'no signal' banner.

I've had the Pioneer plasma for a couple of years and it is superb. On the LCD front we found (surprisingly) that Phillips LCD's had one of the best picture quality.

Wotz all this about HD and Blu Ray then? we've only just gotten into freeview. Methinks we're a little behind the times. Still have our nicam gear and that's too technical for us.
