GPS with grid co-ords?
Anyone know of any handheld GPS units which does a display in grid co-ords rather than lat/long? Preferably does other countries grid (specifically French). I'm not looking for a sat-nav, it's purely a GPS locator I'm after, doesn't need to be anything fancy with maps or anything.

I'm looking especially for one that won't be too expensive 2nd hand.

I have a Garmin that would be available, it does Lat/Long and has done me for normal OS Grids all over the world, in fact it still has a memory with lots of targets/OP's and RV's in Canada, Kosovo, UK and a few other places.

Any GPS i would have thought should do it, you just need to trawl through the settings.

I'll dig mine out and have a look for the instruction book as well.

One thing that GPS enabled was the ease of use of a world wide system and you want to go back to local grids. Luddite

Most modern GPS units will have a whole load of different systems in them... try looking for a datum set option and seeing what will come up

Bigger country than us. The OS National Grid just about works without too much distortion at the extremities.

Yeah, what they said. I have a 10 year old Garmin GPS II Plus that has all the datum references you could possibly want to shake a stick at.

It's slightly waterproof too, so if the skipper catches you recording his secret marks on the sly and chucks it overboard, you may be able to retrieve it*


* don't do this people; it's disrespectful. Ask for them first, and then do it when he refuses **

I use a hand held Etrec Venture - can change easily between lat/long and OS.

Only around £150 new these days - basic but ok for easy navigation.
