Mobile question from techno-thickie

Got a new phone a while back, don't particularly like it, so thought I'd put the SIM card in my old phone and flog the new one fleabay. But, the SIM card doesn't work in the old phone. Took it to one of those dodgy little phone shops and the guy in there said that the SIM card was 3G and therefore incompatible with older phones.

If this is true, does this means that my older phones are now obselete or should I hang on to them in case I ever get a non-3G SIM again (2G???).

Thanks

Andrew

Not sure if what you were told is true, you may want to check with your service provider.

I had a Non-3g phone and swapped it for a 3G one and did not need a new sim (SIMS are pretty much free from O2 anyway). When the SIM started playing up, I got a new one but it still works in the non-3G 'phone.

USIMS work fine in non-3G phones, as do normal GSM SIMS in 3G phones. You just don't get the 3G functionality with a 2G phone, and don't get 3G functionality with a 2G SIM (but essentially they're both pretty much the same).

Usually the problem is a simlock on the old phone -What is the message you get on your old phone (and what make/model?)

3 network sims rarely work in other networks phones in my experience is that what you mean by 3g? but voda 3g sims will work in a voda gsm phone for example obviously the 3g bit wont is all
