Talking PC to Fax help needed!

These days we try and email our clients all their confirmations for the bookings we make for them and also the venues we deal with, however, in some cases we have to use the fax machine, when emailing isn't an option.

So, I was wondering if anyone from the great YD massive has the following:-

1. A programme/piece of software that would enable us to send our emails and/or other documents from our PC's to a fax machine. I know this can be done and possibly via a PC modem, but we don't appear to have any software installed. Perhaps we may be able to use this to accept faxes to our PC's. I should also add that we use a router and our broadband and fax share the same line, hopefully this will be OK.

2. I looked on t'interweb and there's a number of companies who offer free 30 day trials then you have to pay etc., etc., but I like the words FREE!!

I should also say that this isn't something we want to do all the time as we only send faxes when we have to.

Any advise and tips will be gratefully received.

Many ta!

Impact Color Fax Lite by Black Ice software basic software but will do the job via a modem ,if you are using MS XP it has built in fax support already ,you might have to enable in add remove / windows options .

To send a fax by email

Use the following format in the To: field

remote-printer.firstname_surname/company_name@faxnumber.iddd.tpc.int

Underscores (_) become spaces and forward slash (/) becomes carriage return (enter)
Faxnumber should be international code and drop area code 0 eg 441246470823
So to send to Arthur Test at ANY Company Ltd on 01234 567890 you would put

remote-printer.Arthur_Test/ANY_Company_Ltd@441234567890.iddd.tpc.int

Not used it for a while as I just got a very old PC with XP on it and I use it to send faxes.

Hells teeth, Arfie....

Gram43,

just print the confirmation out.
Put the print out in a fax machine.
Dial the other persons fax machine.
Press start.

Simple.

So, this isn't a quick fix then. Good job Mrs43 didn't read this, she'd pack in.

Ha, Ha, it does help!
I used a programme years ago where we saved a document as a certain file type then went through the process of using a "virtual fax" on our PC so send. Bit gimmicky and a lot of work for very little.

Out of interest I tried this yesterday as I'd not used it for ages, I got the bounced email this morning.

You aren't using XP by any chance are you? If so, read THIS and you are sorted otherwise let me know if CMOT's program is any good

I'm more or less set up with this XP extension now, but have had a couple of mishaps/system crashes with it, so I'll keep fiddling. Have ordered a couple of telephone socket adapters as I can't unplug my phone just to have the modem plugged in! Phone is more important.
Hopefully when I get the adapters I'll be on my way.
I did notice the programme had a coverpage editor, but I can't get it to accept my bespoke fax page, so more fiddling is required.

Ta, for the tip anyway.

I couldn't be arsed with the coverpage thing either so I just print all docs as pdf files.

I then either do a coverpage on word and print it as a pdf or handwrite it and scan it as a pdf then merge the two files together and send that by fax.

It's a bit of messing about, but I send so few that it's less time than working out how to setup a decent coverpage
