Dead Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop- any ideas?

So. Switched off the laptop last night after watching a program on BBC iPlayer. Nothing odd at all- working perfectly.

This morning go to fire it up and the screen backlight fires up, the fans fire up but apart from that- nothing. No video or computer bios, HDD light not flashing, nothing. Hit the power switch again and it switches off.

I suspect the motherboard is toast and as it's about 3.5 years old, not worth dicking around with.

Unless any of the great YD unwashed has any ideas? Luckily there was no data on it so nothing was lost. It's just annoying.

It's not dead, it's sleeping.

Have you got a windowz disc and tried booting it with that in?

I don't even get a bios screeen so I don't think that'll go.

Do you think that would help? Or maybe I should just rectally insert it up someone...

You have a dead main board, sorry to tell you! I am a Dell engineer and I see this often.

Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh this one looks a winner! Amateur computer fiddlers (ie Joe Public) against that mythological beast, the Dell engineer. Waiting with baited breath to see what happens here.

FWIW my Mr Mads Dell wouldn't start the other day and he was doing the usual - swear it into working. I in my optimistic mode, just held the power button on until it started and after about 20 seconds it did

Come on Woz - who won?
