NTSC DVD to video

A long shot this, but does anybody know if it's possible to copy an NTSC DVD to a PAL vhs - I'm trying to copy a DVD of our last dive in Hawaii (hence NTSC) to video for an elderly relative who only has video.

Connecting the two together doen't work - crap picture, It would be nice for them to see our last dive.

NTSC to PAL conversion

I'll send you a pm later today when I get to my office with details of a conversion programme which I use.

I use SUPER to do all my conversion. It's free and easy enough to use.

Although Super is not bad, it does have severe limitiations and some bugs - but it is free.

It is a file converter programme, but as far as I know, does not do standards conversion from one actual TV standard to another - you would need to do a few things it is unable to do.

I use a programme designed to actually convert standards as well as files - ALSoft Video Converter from ALSoft Video Converter - MPEG to AVI, AVI to MPEG, DivX to DVD, xVid to DVD, AVI to DVD - it is $24.95 and does what it should - I spent a while looking for converter programmes and there were all kinds claiming to do it, but this was the only one that did in this price range.

Thanks guys, at least I know I'll be able to do it. All I need is the time, to much to do, to little time.

TonyD.

Alternatively ....

If your only going to VHS, most DVD players will play non region coded NTSC discs and as long as you specified the output settings to PAL will convert it for you so all you need do is hit the record button on the VCR

As with any pull down (60Hz to 50HZ) you will notice the picture stuttering slightly on panning scenes every second or so.

Regards
Karl

Tried this but was totaly unwatchable - for me - and this will be viewed by someone who is 70+.

I'm trying out Aimersoft DVD Ripper, but will have to wait for a day off, as it's telling me it will take about 10 hours to do.
