    need new ISP

    HI

After a painful 30 mins on the phone to AOL broadband help desk I really am wanting to move. The techy (so called) didnt under stand my complaint of only getting 1/4 to 1/2 meg download speed. Didnt understand the term Megs even though they sell there products in Mbps. Was told to unplug router then blamed my firewall, then computer. Even though I kept saying after 1am I do get almost a 2 meg service. She insisted i get 1.6megs in the day time all the time. Was so difficult to speak to her. This is a pretty new problem and has only been like this for a few weeks.

So what are others using and reconmending.

    Cheers

    Paul

ive been with aol for 14 years which is now not even aol but in name alone the network is run by carphone warehouse and is a bag of crap ! the service itself it works but the tech support is a joke until u get to level 2 tech support and then u have to pray u dont get conected to someone who ya cant understand as its totaly pointless talking to em !

there is plenty of choice out there check on the deals and costs from the different services !

good luck and best wishes leigh

I've got the free broadband from Orange, actually I pay £5 per month for the 8mb service and the shitty wireless router. Never get 8mb, but normally hovering around 4-5mb.

I used to have plusnet at home and they said I couldn't have more than 512k as I was too far from the exchange. When I was moving my business into an office, I planned on having Orange down there, but they said the office couldn't get broadband as it was too far from the exchange

I moved the plusnet to the office and had Orange at home, both of which rarely drop below 3mb and are usually 4-5mb. Odd really that they both said I was too far from the exchange at the other premises.

As for AOL, I wouldn't have it if it were free!

I ditched orange as their customer service was sh*t, worse that words could describe..... I use a small ISP now who know what they are doing Andrews & Arnold, excellent customer support with guys that know what they are talking about and not talking from some script sheet!

We use O2's broadband - had it for nearly a year now and it's been really good. I'm on O2 for my mobile, so we get it for £7.50 a month, but I think if you're not with O2, it's only a tenner a month, so it's by no means expensive.

It generally seems to have very good upload / download speeds too (though I don't use it for anything too complicated...!). Definite thumbs up from me.

    Another vote for O2

Recently switched to them from Bulldog (which became Pipex, then Tiscali and with each sale the service reduced but the price remained high!) and found the migration, support and price excellent.

Probably getting twice the speed for half the price!

Sky got the best vote on the Gadget show but hat is only if you have Sky to begin with. I've switched my BT service to Sky as well. The prices seem verygood but the market seems to change so quickly .....................

If you decide to get Sky (in order to get their broadband service) then let me "recommend you" and we'll both get a £50 M&Svoucher.
Still hoping to become Comfortably Numb but feel more Dazed & Confused.

Have a look on ISPReview, you can see on there whats highly rated by 'the people' and also whats available at what price etc. Its been very handy in the past.
