Eh? I was under the impression Oxygen was just as narcotic as Nitrogen... |
| |||
| Imported post Proof is in the diving, 99% of users report less narcosis than on air, yes oxygen is a narcotic gas, but if its more narcotic than nitrogen, why are we not stoned at 1.6 bar ATA when decoing on 100%... Oxygen is used in our metabolism, so the narcotic build up does not occur, as with nitrogen |

| Imported post Excellent reply Andy - I'll be doing the TDI advanced as soon as I can afford the time (moving house at the moment - hopefully - looks like you'll be the man to do it too!). Have sent you a private message - give us a reply as and when you are next online. Cheers |

That being the case, when 'they' say that you should use Trimix to give you an END equivalent to being at 35m, do they mean the equivalent to being there on air, or being there on Nitrox? |

| Imported post Hey Dales, For those of you that don't know - because he's too damned modest to ever talk about it unless absolutely pushed on the subject (I found this out from his wife!!) -, and correct me if I'm wrong here Dude, but Andy is a former BSAC Instructor, current PADI Course Director, IANTD Tech Instructor, TDI/SDI Regional Course Instructor Tutor, Trimix Diving & Blender Instructor and, not that he'll admit to it, got a damned fine bowling and batting average! If any of you guys want to be taught how to dive safely to 150+ metres to see the channel wrecks, then he's your man. And above all, he's just a completely decent chap with no agenda - other than safe diving. He's also got a wicked sense of humour which, in my book at least, is paramount in maintaining sanity. One of the bonuses of having him aboard is his knowledge of dive sites - wrecks and off-shore sites (and throw in cavern, cave and the generally unknown). I know you guys are always looking for new, different and challenging sites to visit - well here's your chance. Welcome aboard Andy, will be joining you for the group Nitrox gig - as will Hobby - and any news on the U-boat? Has the Skipper of the Hard-boat come back to you yet? As well as our usual troop, there are a few guys on this forum that are up for it, so news on sailing times, costs, food/drink etc. well appreciated. I'll call ya tomorrow for a heads-up. Take it easy Bro and congrats on the new post. Sanity at last!. Cheers, (Edited by Bren Tierney at 1:18 am on July 20, 2002) |

| Imported post Dominic, END on trimix planning, as your example 35msw is air depth, or to be correct nitrogen depth. Basically you are looking for a depth you are totally in control of your senses, and know that you could sort out ANY problem, so if your head is mushed at 40, but not bad at 35, choose 30. Personally I run a shallower END, especially on deeper dives, and a lower PP02, low END means that I can sort out myself & anybody else, it also means more helium, so less nitrogen uptake, the low PP02 meansI can run higher 02 deco mixes, without killing my CNS loading. Helium off gases a lot quicker than was thought about 5 or 6 years back, so high helium does not incurr massive deco penalties. Helium is not as cheap as other gases, but can be bought reasonable if you shop about, I have just changed my supplier for the centre, and can get 4 'J's of helium for the price of one from Air Products... So diving Triox, and Trimix is not much dearer than deep air with nitrox stages for deco, but its 100% safer.. Bren, thanks for the vote of confidence... Wicked sense of humour...Me........ Never....... Dive safe one & all |

| Imported post No Bren .. My Window is open wide and clear.. and whats not to be is the fact that Im going to bite with you.... because thats the type of response you would like.. Ive seen the way you are with ya big words and all that, and as long as I dont end up like you then Ill be fine thankyou sir ... Forums are good way of exchanging information and learning new things .. that of which Im fine with and I have no problems which side of any hills you come from because although a yorkshireman.. I dont live there or dive there... funny aint it - oh and we didnt do shakespear in my school either !! |

| Imported post Hey DiveDog, Whatever 'floats your boat' mate. I would suggest that you never try and 'be like' me or anyone else for that matter - be yourself, always best! I would ask one thing though: less of the working-class hero 'we didn't do Shakespeare at our school' type stuff eh? You might just be surprised at where I 'come from' and where I went to school. And lastly, not that you need reminding, but YD is not cosy club for a select elite/group of mates to use as a private email service, but rather a 'forum' - or at least purports to be -, and carries with it all the attendant baggage that goes with that title: plural exchange of views, agreement, disagreement, info exchange & update, dive-site review etc. So whilst you might have question marks about where I was schooled and my use of 'big words' (groan), you'll just have to cope mate - after all that's what you get for being on a larger FORUM and not simply a member of a 'club' with all its attendant tweeness. Believe me when I say that I'm on a number of dive forums where your intial response to my 'Shakespearean Skit' (which, let's face it, was posted as a laugh!) would have garnered from the forum's users more than the summary correction that I sent you in reply. Can we please move back to the subject of diving now? After all, this exchange stopped being boring and became tedious for the rest of the forum's users a while back.
