O2 prices

Anybody any idea what current prices for a J of
diving grade helium
medical oxygen
welding oxygen
are at the moment from BOC?
has to be BOC as they are the only ones within 50 miles or so.
  not deposits or delivery, just the cost of the gas cylinder.
At the moment I am getting weird prices from my local distributor.

BOC industrial gas price list that i have 1st Jan 2002 (no new one supplied by BOC so presumed to be still in date) " W" 230bar sized (48L i think) £61.60 yearly rental+VAT  £14.00 + VAT for the actual O2 fixed collection charge of £8.95. No Helium prices ..sorry.

Interestingly i had a conversation with somebody at BOC and they said they only supply one grade of O2 and thats the best (medical) there is,its just put onto different price lists for different users.......not too sure if that really is true and if there are different prices. Try talking to someone and see if you get the same answer.

Oxygen all comes out of the same tank. You pay mainly for the paperwork for the different sources. There's certainly plenty of people use welding O2 to mix Nitrox..

You hear some funny stories from people about "They don't bother to clean out the tanks for welding oxygen, it might have some acetylene in it", but they're passed on by people who think BOC et al are run by people with a deathwish who're happy to fill Oxygen to high pressure in a contaminated cylinder...

It is all the same gas, thats straight from the technical dept at BOC.
 The local BOC agent has given me odd prices and I just want to confirm what BOC itself charge.

Just to add to Jetsam's (I've met your cousin Flot) note

I have a medical gas price list for Jan 2002, did have the one for Jan 2003, but have passed it on. There was a small increase.

Helium EP Size J not listed, only D & F, much smaller. Web site does not list J on the product info either.

Medical Oxygen comes under two different names, I don't know the specific difference between the two.
Oxygen EP size J (47.2 litres) £7.15 for gas, £3.30/month hire.
Breathing Oxygen size PW (50 litres) £11.90 for gas, £5.25/month hire.

Add a little for inflation and then add VAT. There is also a fixed charge of 25.60 (plus increase etc) irrespective of delivery/pickup.

Yeah.........good one, pure O2 to 230bar in dirty cylinders..... as you say, unlikely, HSE would have a fit if BOC did that.

I think the "J" size is now a defunct sizing, something to do with either 175 or 200 bar, if it still is around check that out pricing wise.Certainly our old "J"s of Nitrogen were a straight swap for the newer "W" at 230 bar. Thats BOCs standard fill pressure at this size so they tell me.

On another note i seem to remember Air products telling me that their Medical grade goes through an extra filter to take out excess moisture....could be guff, but i don't pretend to work in the gas producing industry....except after a curry (does methane count? ).
