| Imported post I have noticed that my split fins seem to cause much less down draught and consequent disturbance to the shi.. silt. Not that it has anything to do with this topic but I occasionally break into the "Man from Atlantis" finning method. Don't really get very far but it is good for a nice stretch.

They're designed to work in a fast flutter (silt stirrer) stroke and to collapse on the backstroke to reduce resistance. With a frog kick, all your propulsion comes from the backstroke.
