I have noticed that my split fins seem to cause much less down draught and consequent disturbance to the shi.. silt.

Not that it has anything to do with this topic but I occasionally break into the "Man from Atlantis" finning method.
Don't really get very far but it is good for a nice stretch.

Safe diving,

You can't frog in a farce fin

They're designed to work in a fast flutter (silt stirrer) stroke and to collapse on the backstroke to reduce resistance. With a frog kick, all your propulsion comes from the backstroke.

Thanks Dom, I'll have a look.

However, I think Zak may have the reason why I was unsuccessful with it. I use Force Fins.

If used correctly, the 'man from Atlantis' technique is great for quick bursts of speed or sustained power finning against strong current. It's pretty much the same style used by freedivers - hence the monofins - allowing larger muscle groups to be employed.

On longer and/or harder dives, I tend to swap between different styles to relax different muscles.
