Depth is a state of mind thing. Once you accept the fact you cant go up quickly the depth becomes irelevent.

Often after a dive with my lot someone says "how deep was it" and no one knows. We have to check the computers to find out. The only number on the computer that matters is the "Time to Surface"

A three hour dive to 60m max is just as stressfull as a three hour dive to 100m max.

The state of mind thing is the issue. If i am doing a 65m dive I dont give it a second thaught but if I am doing a 70m dive it gives me pause and a 90m dive and I am thinking of nothing else in the days leading up to the go.

In truth of course, its not that much more dangerous doing the 90 than it is doing the 60but your mind plays tricks on you.

I doubt if there are more than a douzen or so UK divers who are honestly relaxed about breaking 100, its still a big dive.

The deepest that i have been is the Afic 84.6 meters i havent done 100 and i dont see the need to untill i find a wreck i want to dive on, I wouldnt do it just for the "Ive been to the 100m mark brigade".

I think 85m is deep, dark and seems darker without gary there but i'm used to being on my own

In answer to the original poster - why did I do it - well there are many reasons, some worthy and some stupid, but here goes:

1. A significant depth trhat I wanted to be able to say I had done - worthy to me
2. A deep dive that I enjoyed planning - worthy to me
3. A dive that would allow me to say "75m diving, pah! I've done deco deeper than that!" - stupid reason
4. Defeating a personal demon - turns out I need to go back to Dotty to do that one - I'll let you know if it was a good reason once I've done it

To be honest, I care little about what people think of me and my diving, 100m was a marker that I decided I wanted to reach and I did it. For that reason alone, for me, it was worth doing.
