Dive Planning software

Is anyone interested in maintaining a thread/sticky (if mod agrees) on what software is available, who from and what users think of it??

Starter for 10:

Suunto Dive Manager v2.1.5
As a dive log program - its fine. The printing options are crippled (useless)tho.
As a dive planner its aweful .. interface is very hard to use, you have to plot the dive curve first - almost impossible to do!

Dive Assistant
from www.blackwave.com
Available for PC & Pocket PC
looks promising, fairly costly tho - $45 for PC, $30 for PPC
It is (IMHO) in beta stage, there are loads of planning options on the "to-do" list. There is a 'Nitrox' wizard - but not working yet. Should be good when they finish it.

SharkPoint
www.dreamdives.org/en/index.htm
flashy log program. Planning - not that I could find!

So - I guess I have not found any 'easy' dive planning so far that would mirror the PADI tables on air or nitrox (but they stricktly keep hold of copyright, so thier tables can't be used except by PADI!)

I have not looked at deco software (no idea about deco - so staying away from it!)

please feel free to edit/add

It's not "planning software" but you can download a good dive logging program and instructions on how to make an interface from the link below.

Funny you should ask this!

I've recently been looking at Nitrox tables to refresh my knowledge (course done years ago) in doing so I have produced a set of Nitrox tables that are remarkabley similar to the PADI ones.

I did work these out from formula and have put them on this web page

http://www.scubadivingtours.co.uk/nitrox/

I still need to put the formula on each page so people can check for themselves.

I could also do a set for air.

Anybody got any formula that calculate maximum dive time and pressure groups, and I would be interested in formula for surface interval and reduction in pressure groups also.

Any help
Jason

Hi

Made it sticky. Please post links and discuss elsewhere, if you need to.

www.hlplanner.com

Free VPM based software using work done by Erik Baker so I think this qualifies as VPM-B.

The new version uses both VPM and Buhlman. Comes with serious developments bundled with both DiveLog and GMP. Very easy to 'drive' and has intregral tools such as range plan, analysis mode etc. Re-planning made easy with one click.

Not cheep at $149 but the upgrade from previous version is cheeper.

There is also Dplan for Palm at $49 which, to me, together with Mixer (free) makes the Palm a great diving unit.

The nitrox planner for Dive Assistant from Blackwave is now working. Go to
Dive Assistant - Pocket PC & PC Scuba Dive and Log Software. Dive Site Finder & Locator
rather than Blackwave - Pocket PC & PC Scuba Dive and Log Software. Dive Site Finder &
Locator
, as the software is being moved.

My software (XS) is at www.lizardland.co.uk

I've got an upgrade coming that aims the diving more at rebreather planning than it is now. The current version uses both GF Buhlmann and M11F6 (the Hamilton/Swedish Navy model).

The new version will run only M11F6.

Cheers,

Stuart
