Thanks for the advice people. I am a little surprised for some reason that the VR3 gets you out of the water so much quicker. Most of you seem to say pretty much the same thing so I`m thinking it is not such a good idea. Most of my diving buddies are using Sunnto same as me so the chances are I`d end up waiting for them anyway.
The bad news is that I have found my roof is leaking, the water running down the chiney on the inside was the clue and guess what, the money I have saved to treat myself to a shiny VR3 is about the same as the price of the repairs to my roof.
I suppose I will have to just talk about it for another year or move to a tent.
Thanks for the views and I take it all on when decideing what to do.

It's not about getting out of the water quicker. Rather, it's more about following a better decompression profile. The deeper stops requested by the VR3 allow for shorter shallow stops, but if you're with guys using Suuntos, it'll do you no harm to pad your shallow stops whilst you wait for them to finish. You may want to advise them that they are likely to be clocking up more deco time if they wait for you whilst you spend a couple of minutes at each deep stop.

No, he should go diving whilst he waits for his missus to fix the leak

You may also want to advise them what you think of having to spend longer on the shallow stop than necessary while doing the shallow stop
