Inverting Tanks

Hi, I am thinking of inverting my doubles, it would make it easier for valve shut downs and streamlining. Does any one in the forum dive this config? Comments and suggestions?

You're amongst friends on here

Several of us do, including me obviously.

What do you need to know?

1) Long hoses required for both 1st stages, can be easily bought 5' and 7' length
2) You can use std wing inflate if you have pull dump, I have a custom length hose
3) Suit hose - std length.

LH 1st stage - wing inflate (up through tanks) spg, round the side, 5' long hose up side of tank over right shoulder for secondary dv bungee under chin
RH 1st stage, suit inflate, 7' long hose under weight belt over left chest round back of head and over rh shoulder for primary dv.
Central Isolator points at my bum. Valve cage reqd. (I use a CD version)
LH/RH as appears to me when wearing the wing/tanks.

Anything else.

Matt

PS Welcome to YD, any chance you could post some information about yourself in the Intros section, its seen by many (on here) as good manners.

Hi

Yes, I did (but stopped doing so)

and there's a few who either still do or have reverted to "the wrong way up" rather than inverted.

Look at Nigel's website for some info

http://www.nigelhewitt.co.uk/

The advantages and disadvantages are more than adquately explained

For a "philosophical" view from those who oppose inverting, read the following piece "Protecting the Air Supply" (about half way down)
http://www.gue.com/equipment/jj-hogarth.shtml

Personally, I only went back to wrong way up, because it was such a pain rejigging my rig on the boat / standing it up on the valve guards (purely personal preference).

Inverting is the easiest way to get at your valves - no contest!

Andy, do you guard the valves in any way. I am thinking of going indie 12's but hadnt considered (I know its blasphemy) inverting because of the valve guard issue, individual guards or a twin one to tie the cylinders together.

Got a picture?

Matt

Just a quickie, how long have you had twins and what kind of problems are you experiencing? The reason I ask is that a while ago I very nearly went down this route out of pure frustration at not being able to reach my valves. After trial and error (and a lot of tantrums!) turned out to be a simple case of my undersuit restricting movement in my shoulders. When I changed this, bingo! I was able to reach the valves ok. This maybe not the case for you, but could be something just as simple.

Cheers,

Ian

Vid, excellent links. Interesting stuff about the Isolator too. Almost sounds like JJ is not that much in favour, certainly a little wary.
