Swagelok fittings.

I have been in touch with a London based Swagelok company (thanks Colinicky).

I need some specific advice on HOW the fitting are attached to a Scuba LP hose ..... their engineer wasn't really sure what was involved/the best method for Scuba gear.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Tks

They are threaded NPT fittings. On mine I have a female hose tail (a barbed fitting that pushes into the end of the hose and is secured with some form of hose clip). You then screw fit the male end of the QC fitting into the hose tail.

An alternative may be to buy a pre-made hose either from Swagelok or some other supplier with the female NPT fittings attached. You would then screw the QC into the hose but would need an adaptor to convert the hose from NPT to UNF. BSR-Aerotek do loads of adaptors that would work.

Cheers,

Stuart

Stuart,

Tks for the info. I have no previous experience of hose/pipe fittings and accronyms.

Because I want to use a 5 or 7 ltr cylinder for accelerated deco I can no longer back mount it as I did with my 3 ltr alu. Because I still persist with using my FFM I need to have a side mounted cylinder that has a quick connect (QC) hose so that I can undo it whilst still in/under the water without flooding the hoses (so the cylinder may be passed up onto the RIB before my twin set). My current QC hose system is only water tight on the upstream hose.

The Swagelok engineer said they would fit their bits for me BUT he wasn't sure of any scuba specific info they might need to know.

AIUI, I need a QC6 and two DESOs.

My plan was to get a LP hose, mark the section to be cut out and fit the Swagelok bits myself but, if any special tools are needed ..................

Question figures

Bry
Have you actually run the figures for any deco you may do ?
ie 40m for 45mins on 27% still only gives you 30 mins deco on 80% now even I can get 45mins out of a 3l at 6metres !
if you ran 32% as back gas (1.6ppo2) then you cut it to 24 mins deco .

which qc have you got at present ? & is it male or female ?

The one from Ocean Reef.

Don't be smutty. Both? The male end is unprotected against water ingress.

No, but I asked Sea&Sea who are UK agents and 'no they don't' ...... which possible seems a bit silly ............ maybe I'll ask Sea&Sea to contact Ocean Reef about this...............

Done any dives yet? I'm getting really pissed off about not diving .........

Swagelok B-PB4-TA4 Brass Push On Hose Fitting for 1/4" ID, 1/4 OD Adapter which attaches to a B-QC4-B-400 Brass Quick Connect Body 1/4" Tube or Stem
1315R 13.0-15.0 stainless two -ear clamp from Flotec in Loughborough and a big pair of pliers to crimp it over the PB-TA4.

I dunno why you are using QC6's as you'd need a different adapter to get down to the i.d of most LP hose.

QC6 was mentioned/recommended somewhere as maybe the one I need ..........

I need to cut a LP hose in half and put two connectors on the cut ends which will allow me to reconnect the hose together and then disconnect whilst in the water and prevent water getting into the open ends of the hose.

Possibly, if I ever do trimix and the system works well then maybe I might need to (i guess) disconnect my bottom gas and connect my deco gas!

Is:-

1315R 13.0-15.0 stainless two -ear clamp from Flotec in Loughborough and a big pair of pliers to crimp it over the PB-TA4.

what I need to achieve my aims?

Tks

The QC6 is for 3/8 tube.

LP hose is usually 1/4 i.d.

If you use a B-4-HC-A-601 it will go from 1/4 hose to 3/8 tube.

You want B-QC6-D-600 DESO stem and B-QC6-B600 body which are 3/8 tube fittings.

Cut the LP hose put a two ear crimp over each end push in the B-4-HC-A-601's and squeeze the crimps over them. Then put the end tube in the stem and body respectively and tighten.
