I used one for the first time last week whilst doing a normoxic trimix course. Scared the shit out of me, so stuck to the run time on the slate and using the vytec in gauge mode. Did the like the permanent backlight though, gave me some sort of comfort down in the dark depths of the NDAC. I'll have to get one eventually I suppose. Tim |

| "Well my shiny new VR3 arrived today and I am more than pleased." I have used a VR2 (the same deco software as the VR3 alledgedly) recently in Bikini Atoll alongside my wife who was using a VR3 kindly loaned to us by Dive Rite in Whitefield, the shop where we bought the VR2 from. I was extremely concerned when the VR3 cleared decompression requirements as much as 33% earlier than the VR2 despite both computers apparently having the same settings and both my wife and I diving together ALL THE TIME for two weeks solid on effectively identical dive profiles. I contacted the manufacturer to ask why this was happening and got a series of none answers back - they suggested that we were not diving identical profiles etc. etc. etc. I countered that the difference of 33% could NOT be explained away quite so easily. So... what am I getting at here? Well... I'd urge you as a new VR3 user to use a second known safe computer in tandem with your VR3 until you are absolutely sure it is behaving safely. Perhaps I am missing something but I would expect two supposedlyu identically set and identically software programmed computers to give very similar times. And if I am doing something dumb - and that's far from unlikely if I am to be perfectly honest - then I'd like Delta P or any experienced diver for that matter, who knows what is going on, to put me right. | You'd need to check the software version number of both models, as well as the pin codes entered - if the VR3 had the new VPM algorithm enabled, this may well be the reason the times did not tally up. I'm not sure it would make a 33% difference, but that could also be down to the safety factor entered in both computers - you'd need to ensure that these settings were identical before saying that two computers of the same make/software were not consistent. Several guys on these boards run two VR3s (one as backup) and am sure they would not be doing so if the differences were so great. HTH Martin |

Alternatively, just post the depths and bottom time on here, and post the deco each machine gave you for a specific dive. We can then do the maths for you. Whilst your at it. No-one, including deltap, can help you unless you give us some figures to work with. Last edited by Garf : 09-10-06 at 04:23 PM. |
