Going out to Spain - had to demonstrate that the cylinder was empty (ie valve open) and they insisted it was in the hold - which it was in the "big blue box"

Coming back - thinking "OK ready for you.." - box open ready, cylinder at the top... expression and something said on the lines of "wtf are you bothering me with that???" from the guy at check-in

I have taken these abroad many times before (in my hold luggage) and never been questioned, although I expect at some point I will have to plead ignorance.

Taken the CO2 cartridges abroad with me a few times. Stopped only once but that was because I didn't declare that the bag was full of diving gear and go through the separate check-thru for such things. Every other time I just said the bag holds scuba gear, they direct me to a separate check-thru for my hold luggage, it gets x-rayed and I toddle merrily away.

If you will put it with your diving equipment I think it will be ok
