| On top of the guys already mentoned have a look at Gary Fox at Dive Action in Cornwall. Don't bother if you are feint of heart tho - he's a Yorkshireman through and through. He's the guy that did the YBOD course for Chris Boardman that was reported on in Diver mag a few years ago.

| Another aspect to consider is the "style" of diving you and your buddies do. If you use bi-lateral stages, prefer a particular mix to deco on etc then those are things worth asking the instructor about as well....and choosing one that you feel compatible with. I am not sure that Frank Bruce is still active but I had a really good learning time with him. Zak, also from e-aquanauts, has a good reputation though I have no first hand experience of him ... other than taking the p*ss. HTH Mal |

| Another big thumbs up for Phil Short He's based near me, loads of my friend have done their Trimix and Caving training with him and they all rate him. I'm also planning to do my Trimix next year and he's on my shortlist, the only other instructor I would recommend is Kevin Gurr, although he isn't doing much teaching anymore and will refer you onto Phil. |

| annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd another vote for Mark Powell. You couldn't ask for a more patient or helpful chap. his safety divers aree a bunch of bastards though. |

| I think my day with Mark Powell was the best 'tech' instructing I've had. Mark's skill is that he can judge where your comfort zone very well and that allows him to extend it a little bit. However. I would phone everyone mentioned on this thread and explain what your situation is and where you want to be. For 'tech' instructing they won't mind, probably will be pleased, and you will find an instructor that dives like you do. Janos
