Ohhhhh Thinking about it, it would be a bit difficult (and cold!) to go outside RDP/Comp at 18m.

I will go outside and reprimand myself over a bowl of cornflakes for being a numpty

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

However, I'm a little baffled as to the mechanics of this. You write a course, PADI approves it, and then the course is first flogged to instructors, then flogged to students (along with kit of course, great kit sales!). Is this really how this works. How many students are put through the course, and how many revisions does it go through before being "accepted", as it sounds suspiciously like "ooh, a twinset course, we haven't got one of those, ACCEPTED".

I have a lot more than 300 dives in a twinset and don't feel remotely qualified to teach people how to use them safely. I defer to Mr Powell when it comes to formal professional teaching. However, I definitely reckon I could have a good crack at writing courses including course material. I think I'll write a "panicking for professionals. GO PRO!" course, or perhaps a "Getting lost in Wrecks - the basics" course, as I have experience in both of these. Perhaps John Touhrig could write a "Not finding Wreck Speciality". The Dude could write a course entitled "Negative Buoyancy - Seabed Walking for divers". For that matter, Gareth Lock could write a "Squaring the Circle - How to add fudge factors to ATA calulations course". Howard Payne could write a course entitled "Advanced Navigation and Communication - How to tell your team mates you are late becuase you are lost - Again". Clare Gledhill could write two courses, comprising "Kit Puchasing for beginners" and "advanced fettling".

Oh I could go on all day, and usually do...

That argument can be applied to virtually every aspect of diving. What's to stop people exceeding their recommended maximum depths? What's to stop them hitting quite a lot of deco in a single tank (like the chap who I passed on a line off Hurghada who had 20 minutes of deco left on a single 12)? What's to stop people going way too far into overhead environments? What's to stop people exceeding safe ascent rates? What's to stop people not observing reasonable surface intervals? Etcetera, etcetera.

At some point, as an instructor, you have to make a choice: either trust the student when they say that they won't do these things, or don't certify them.

It's just another tank on yer back

Gerry is being naughty.

I wonder - would the long hose (it will use a long hose right?) get snagged in the snorkel..?
