Are they different machines? or same the one with different "Programs"
Would the VR2 or VR3 be suitable for recreational diving using Air and Nitrox or would it be overkill?
Thoughts?
Thanks
The main difference between a Vr3 and the Vr2 is the housing, the Vr3 is aluminum and the Vr2 is a solid plastic.

Although the Vr2 will not do Full Trimix it will do up to 17/35tx.

There are one or two other things the Vr2 is not capable of doing that the Vr3 can do like tracking 3 Oxygen sensors with a Universal Rebreather Monitor.

They are both suitable for recreational diving and maybe more so for repetitive shallow dives with CNS tracking for regular Nitrox diving.

Also a no fly time and next dive NS times.

you can try a simulator here;

If you are seriously considering one... Mark Powell does a try before you buy ...

Make sure you get the newer version 7 pin connector..

If you don't get on with it, sell it on you'll be surprised just how much it will go for..on ebay.
