Doesn't have significant amounts of O2 in, hence the massive headache you get if you do it too many times in a row. Obviously, not speaking from personal experience as that would be real stupid, right . . .

The cylinder I stuck my analyser against said 0% O2, no idea what else was in it (other than helium, the balloons floated) but there was no O2.

And the headache could well come from CO2 instead of low O2. Or both. Basically don't breathe it. It's not good for you.

in the dark and distant past when i used to buy baloon gas (circa 1994) - i seam to remember it doesnt actually contain much He - maybe 10%

if you only fill baloons with he - they go down too quickly

I remember ready they actually put extra CO2 in... to stop you holding it in to long..as the CO2 induces the earge to breath...

If you contact BOC gases and ask them for the C.O.S.S.H. Data sheet that should explain the make up of the gas.
