young nitrox
hi while in egypt in august my daughter dived on air but was asked if she would like to do nitrox course she`s thirteen very sensible has40+ dives logged sea and fresh, would like to know if any effect on young`ns diving on nitrox for holidays

OD is 12 years in a school, 14 years in a club

Nitrox is now part of OD, so I'm sure they've looked into this...

no she`s padi certfied junior a,o,w,d but padi states you have to be 15 to do nitrox to 40% but its 12 years with indt

Can't think of any drawbacks, but if concerned, would consider taking antioxidants. May be worth ringing up the chamber and asking what they give to DCI patients - I believe it is vitamin E?

TDI is a 15yr minimum aswell i think.

AFAIK there's no physiological barrier, its all about liability.

I think that no one can put your mind at rest. There is just about no research into the long term effect of diving on children. There can't be as it is relatively new sport and only recently have a larger number of children been taking part.

So anyone who says there is no risk can't be sure. We don't even know if there is a hazard for a child to use Nitrox, so we can't quantify a risk.

I'm sorry if this is not what you want to hear, but we are pretty ignorant of the long term effects of sport diving on anyone.

We do like to think we are 'safer' using Nitrox though.

cheers for that guy`s think she will do it and just use it at holidays not in england
last time in egypt she did 18 dives over a fortnight day on day off so i think she will be ok
