shoulder air exhaust valve

i have replaced my semidry for a dry suit over this colder time, it is not new, but has had all the cuffs and seals replaced.
the problem i have, is getting the air out, it has no cuff exhaust valve, but instead a valve on the shoulder this has been problematic from the start as is does not wanted to release the air. even if you press it.now i know i am to replace it, but do i replace it for a cuff valve or should i just put a new valve on my cuff

It could be that your undersuit is blocking the valve from underneath - try fitting a tubigrip bandage over the top of your arm where it sits under the valve, if this is no giood, get the valve checked and if necessary, serrviced or replaced. I'm having similar issues with mine but you will find that in the long run, the constant volume shoulder dump is much better for controlling buoyancy than a wrist dump which tends to drop too much. resulting in yoyo ascents & stops.

This may sound stupid, but it happened to me

Have you got the valve fully open? I spent the first few dives waaaay back with my first drysuit wondering why my dump didn't work and why the air stayed trapped in my suit. I foolishly thought that turning the valve all the way to the '+' side meant it was fully open, when in fact it was fully closed. Yes, I was a numpty, but what can you do if you don't know these things?

If you have got it fully open, try what Richard says.

If its an Apeks valve and you feel its not working correctly the ring them. They will ask you to send it back and hey presto...will deliver you a brand new one in just a few days, with a lovely letter saying "as its not a current model have a new one" Free of charge...all it will cost you is the postage.

If its a second hand drysuit...its a good place to start.
