Best regs for twins

Tried out my twins at the weekend for the first time, and loved them. Even managed to reach the valves and do shutdowns (just)!

I moved the hoses around on my old Oceanic main and Pony regs, and these are OK but the hoses get in the way a little on the left post. I've been advised to get some Apeks DS4, or if I can afford the Scubapro mk25 + S600's as the hose routing on these are great for twins

I doubt I'll get the benefit of the Scubapro's so Apeks are fav at the moment, possibly with ATX100 and ATX50 (or another ATX100) as the primary and backup regs.

Have just bought a new wing, twins, backplate harness etc budget might be a tad limiting!

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
FE

Have you looked at the Poseidon options?
They have the advantages of not being "handed" and being high performance.
I use all three current offerings for primary, backup and stages.
Nice bits of kit.

I use Apex - 1 DS4 and 1 DST
Personally I think the turret version helps the routing, but some people don't like them 'cause they have an extra failure point.

Other than that, I know Scubapros are popular as are Poseidon (sp?) for twins.

Save up and get the MK25/ S600! I waited for a long time and got by with my old oceanic CDX4, but now I'm glad I did the saving!

I have both. I started with Apeks and to be honest they are good workhorse regulators, cheap and well tested with a good track record. At the time I moved to a twinset I couldn't afford anything else.

I treated myself to some scubapro M25s last year. They are my regs of choice now and the ones I take abroad when I can only fit one set of back gas regs in my luggage. If it just money alone - buy the Apeks DS4s with ATX or TX 40s. If you can stretch a little more by waiting go for the Scubapros - but as there is not much in it make sure you can't spend the money on something you will need more.

Thanks for the advice, i've seen in other posts that there is an additional failure point in the DS4's? Is that true?

Nah - that'll be the DST you're thinking of as it has a swivel turret which - funnily enough - the Scubapro MK25 has too...

Personally, though, it's all (mostly) bollox - as long as you maintain your kit (rinse after every dive and service regularly) and keep an eye on it, the chances of a swivel becoming a problem are fairly minimal. In water it's not really an issue either as a) you should be fully proficient in isolating a leaking first stage should it becoming a serious problem and b) your team will spot a trickle of bubbles long before it turns into a torrent of bubbles anyway!

Personally if I had the money, I'd go for MK25s too but I'd stick with Apeks 2nd stages as I still think they're a cut above Scubapro 2nds. For the rest of us on more meagre budgets, Apeks DS4s are still the 1st stages to go for...

Personally, I'd be buying the Apeks.

Not because there is anything wrong with the Scubapro - quite the opposite they are great, reliable regs. My choice is based on poor customer support (it might have been a one off but it has polarised my view of the organisation as a result).

S/Pro regs

I hate to let the world know, but have you tried Deep Blue. They have MK25s with G250v 2nd stages for 199 quid plus postage and packaging. They also have the G250v with the MK17 1st stage for 179.

I use MK17s on my twins and the routing is pretty much similar to the DS4s. I've just bought the MK25 and 250v for use as a stage/deco reg.
