Hey... If I bring the little digital fisherman's scales to the Stoney gig can we have a 'weigh in' on every stage available?

Actually, I would be interested in those results if you do. It would be nice to see actual weights +/- not just a tank's trim.

Just a pity it not sea water, but I can guesstimate the difference... Or Nigel, you could tell us exactly how to work it out

didn't this thread get done not so long ago?

edit: here is it:

Stage Cylinders - Ali or Steel

I must do some more picks to demo this. An empty steel 7 will even float with a reg on. As will a steel 10 Yes they float arse in the air. Just like any ali cylinder with a reg on will.

Reguardless they shouldent be 1.8Kg neg when empty.

As you can see in the pics I was breathing off the cylinder at the time to view it diferent boyancy charictoristics as it emptied

I did this before at Vobster with Bob Cooper. You will be surprised at the results.

I've got a steel faber with clips and a reg, currently with 230 bar of air. It's total weight is 12.7kg and 3.75kg neg on my fishing scales when it's in the bath.

By my calcs 230 bar in 7 litres weighs about 1.9kg. What am I doing wrong? Thus it should be about 1.8 neg when empty. What am I doing wrong?

Ive dived with twin 15's and 2 7lt steels and apart from being very akward it was too heavy, I tried two 12's to see how that would feel in a lake and I hit the silt like a shiteload of lead! Im now using a Meg and have 2x ali80's, have dived with them and like them, you could put a small weight on the bottom of the tank to counter the positive pull when they get lower in pressure.

Steel 12s are stages? Don't even think about it - steel 10s are manageable but steel 12s would just be far too heavy. Your best bet is to either manifold them together to make a second twinset (ie. that's your second dive sorted!) or sell 'em on and get something far more suitable for use as a stage - an Al80, for example...
