I use a 7L steel stage, and have dived with 2 10L steels before, but I have to say the 2x10's made me fly like an anvil straight into the bottom of the training lake.

I think that 12L steel stages might be a tad too big.

Use 7l steels without any problem. Not sure about 12l though - best bet is to try them and see how you get on (remembering how you'd cope with your weighting if you had to drop them or hand them off).

Instinct would tell me they're probably too negatively buoyant. However I wouldn't believe me or anyone else on the internet, because many people also say that 7l steel cylinders are no good for stages, but I quite like them.

So jump in the water somewhere with them and see what you think.

If your using them for trimix bailout gas they will be fine. If your using them fro Nitrox deco gas they will be heavy. Doable with the right wing but best avoided.

To need 12ltr stages it must be a very big dive or you have the SAC of a horse at canter on deco

Mark, I thought you would suggest to side mount them and go caving

Sorry, nothing useful to add here.

Not a bad plan as long as you wedge a scrubber inbetween them

Personally I wouldn't use them for stages, they're far too big for most uses. I take it as you're asking the question that you're fairly new to using stages, in which case I would suggest something like a 7l. 12l is a hell of a heavy cylinder to cart about.

I would consider using 12l steels as bailout tins for very deep dives with high he mixes where I need a lot of gas. I'd still be carrying AL80s for the nitrox mixes mind.

Digs.

I use two seven litre steel stages.

I have a pair of alis but they don't hang nicely and want to float up under my arms.

I think the alis might be out of test too as I haven't touched them in years.
